ROBBEN ISLAND


A reminder of past atrocities and symbol of oppression. Where the first President of the new democracy, Nelson Mandela, spent 17 years in prison! On the Island, your guide, an ex-inmate, will take you on a conducted tour.

CULTURAL CAPE TOWN

We visit the BO-KAAP (Old Malay Quarters), drive through the MOTHERCITY, stop outside PARLIAMENT, pass the CITY HALL where PRESIDENT MANDELA made his first speech on his release in February 1990, CAPE TOWN CASTLE, SA MUSEUM, the COMPANY GARDENS, the OLD SLAVE LODGE, through DISTRICT 6, to ATHLONE (Coloured area), RYLANDS ESTATE (Indian area) ending in GUGULETU in the TOWNSHIPS.

THE WHALE ROUTE

Between June and November the Southern Right Whale migrates to our warmer waters in order to calve. What always surprises tourists is how close these huge creatures come to the shore. Travel to HERMANUS, along the scenic coastal route overlooking False Bay. Visit the HAROLD PORTER BOTANICAL GARDEN en route. Return to Cape Town via Sir Lowry's Pass through the apple orchards of the Cape.

BOTANICAL(FLOWER)TOURS

The Floral Kingdom of the Western Cape is unique being smallest of the world's 6 Floral Kingdoms, but with the largest number of species. Visit KIRSTENBOSCH the home of the Botanical Society of South Africa. The Spectacular Spring Flowers of the WEST COAST (August-September), the HAROLD PORTER BOTANICAL GARDENS. In the Overberg are rare erica species, and you can visit a working flower export farm.
